I recently took us out at work.
I didn’t realize that I was hurt during the fall until a couple of days later.
I was working on a furnace repair for one of our residential customers. It was a very icy day and the temperatures outside were below freezing. There was ice everywhere in the driveway and on the sidewalk. I walked out to my truck to grab a part for the furnace. I was watching the sidewalk for patches of ice and I didn’t see the dog running up behind me. When he bumped into my leg, I lost my balance and fell on the ice. I hit the ground with a heavy thud. My butt hurt a little, but I didn’t think I was injured. A few days after the furnace repair, the muscles in my back tightened and started to ache badly. I was having trouble walking and moving. When I went to work, I decided to tell my boss about the problems with my back. I filled out an incident report when I fell during the furnace repair and everything was properly documented. My boss sent me to the emergency room for an x-ray. I had more significant injuries than I realized, including a fractured tailbone. I’m going to be out of work for the next 6 weeks while all of the injuries heal. My boss wasn’t mad or upset by the news. He told me to heal and get well, because the spring is always busy. I’m even getting paid 60% of my regular salary while I stay home and recuperate.
